Google has finally revealed the latest and much awaited version of Android OS – Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The first phone with Gingerbread is Samsung Nexus S . Let’s have a look at it’s features :

New Refined User interface

The user interface is refined for simplicity and speed. It is easier to learn, faster to use and power-efficient. The notifications pop-ups and menus have also been improved.

Improved keyboard with more intuitive text input

The keyboard has been redesigned for faster and easier text input. The keys have been reshaped and repositioned which makes typing easier. The user can correct entered words from suggestions in the dictionary or can switch to voice input which enables user to enter a word by speaking, without typing it.

The multi-touch feature lets you enter alphabets, numbers and symbols without changing the text input mode, just by pressing shift+<letter>.

Improved Text selection and copy-paste

The user can select a word simply by press-hold, then copy to the clipboard and paste.

Improved power management

The improved power management increases performance and battery life of your phone. You can see which running application is utilizing what share of your CPU and battery.

Near Field Communication Support (NFC)

These are apps which let the user interact with the nearfield comunication tags. You can simply touch or swipe an NFC tag embedded in a poster, advertisement, sticker, restaurant etc. to learn more about them. It would goto to a website mentioned in the tag to get some information.

VOIP calling

The user can make voice calls over the internet to other users who have SIP accounts. The user can add an internet calling number (a SIP address) to any Contact and can initiate a call from Quick Contact or Dialer.
